What is therapy/counselling
Therapy is a way of exploring oneself in a relationship with a therapist/counsellor. It is a relationship that should enable you to repair various relational difficulties you might have experienced in your life. On of the tasks of therapy is to develop bigger capacity to tolerate difficult emotions. It can be painful, but also exciting, rich and life-changing. Therapeutic relationship helps explore and stay with those feelings rather then habitually react or avoid them. With time you might realise that you have more choice to how you want to respond to life circumstances or people and your decisions are more attuned to your needs.
Therapy can be short or long term. I normally tend to work for a minimum of 6 sessions after which I and a client decide if we continue. In general if you are aiming at deeper character changes, it is a much longer process, however it all depends on each person, their wounds and history. I normally work on a once a week basis to ensure regularity and integration of what’s learnt.
